How much RAM does my server need?
How well your RAM performs depends largely on how much RAM you have. Server RAM works in a similar way to normal PC RAM; recalling information, passing instructions through the system, and helping to ensure a consistent stream of data, but on a much higher level. The memory in a server also needs to be able to take on the additional role of making sure data streams consistently through the system. The server's high demands mean a significant amount of memory is required for the server to function effectively and efficiently.
What is the difference between PC and server RAM?
Although PC RAM and server RAM both handle requests and improve performance, there are some fundamental differences between the two. Server RAM includes particular features that are suited to servers and their needs, such as error checking code (ECC). A server must be running 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year, and there is always potential for errors to be made. Server RAM with the ECC feature helps to reduce errors by sending data directly to the server's CPU for additional checking. PC RAM does not have ECC.
Is server RAM powerful?
As we've mentioned above, the role of a server is more demanding than that of a PC and, as such, server RAM is quicker than regular RAM and capable of carrying out additional functions. Server RAM is required to take care of a huge amount of information. The standard speed of Server RAM in today's market is DDR4.
